Mrs. Blair’s Busy Bees - Policies - 2026/27

Communication/Homework/Reading:

I believe communication and working as a team are critical to a student's success and the classroom. Homework and spelling assignments for students are to be submitted DAILY. All materials will be kept in a HOMEWORK BINDER which is distributed to the class every day. The schedule for submission is as follows: Math is required on Tuesday, Language and Foundation on Wednesday, Reading on Thursday, and Writing on Friday (5 complete sentences). Spelling homework requires writing sentences using the week's words DAILY in a COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK that must be carried within the homework binder every day. The purpose of homework is to reinforce lessons, and ensure understanding and mastery of the covered material.

Reading is a part of homework. It is done for 20 minutes daily by reading a book, listening to a book (i.e. Audible), listening and watching the stories on storylineonline.com, listening on Epic!, etc.  Parents/Guardians have to sign the reading log in the homework packet.

Discipline/Consequences

Effective discipline in a 3rd-grade classroom involves establishing clear expectations, teaching routines, using positive reinforcement, and addressing misbehavior promptly and consistently.

1st and 2nd time verbal warning - students gets a check mark for each

3rd time verbal warning - student gets a check mark, which then leads to a consequence

*it is reset every new school day

1st consequence - lunch detention 15 minutes, call home to inform, and a write up for tracking.

2nd consequence - lose all of recess, call home, and write up for tracking.

3rd consequence - lose all of both lunch and recess, call home, and a write up for tracking.

4th consequence - reference to principal with a possibility of ISS (In School Suspension) for one school day.

Students will receive a reward from a BEE CHEST for NO check marks every week.

Grading and Schoolwork/Test/HomeworkPolicy

Grading Scale -  A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 0-59

Grading Percentage - Schoolwork = 70% Test/Quiz = 20% Homework = 10%

• If students miss school, their schoolwork/test/homework will be placed in KETCH-UP FOLDER.

• If students misplace schoolwork/test/homework, they will have to do it for the second time.

• If students forgets their schoolwork/test/homework, they will lose ten points for each school day until it gets returned. In case schoolwork/test/homework does not get returned, students will receive a 0 or an F.

Dress Policy

Academic Dress every Monday is considered Academic Day for students in grades K4-5th. All students must wear a navy blue polo or a CA logo embroidered shirt purchased from Lands’ End. Options include a 3-button polo, full-button oxford style shirt, sweaters, and dresses under the school uniform section. The tops should be worn with khaki pants, skirts, or shorts. Dress Code Violation Consequences for Early Childhood and Lower School: 

• Students found violating the dress code will have a note sent home or email indicating the violation, and a parent’s signature will be required on the note, which should be returned the next school day. 

• Depending on the nature of the violation, a parent may be called to bring dress code appropriate clothing or shoes to change into by 8:30 am. 

• Repeated failure to comply with the dress code will result in loss of recess or lunch detention or referral to the division leader or Head of School.

Expectation/Snack:

I expect all students to be in class and in their seats before the bell rings with two pencils sharpened, the bathroom necessity completed, bags unpacked, and ready to start their day. As students wait for the bell and announcement to start, this is the time to complete morning work for ELA and Math. The class will begin promptly at the end of the announcements, 8:05AM, and any student that comes in after will be marked unexcused tardy. Our snack time is at 9:00AM – 9:10AM. Water bottles are only to have water in them for recess and PE, no sugar drinks. Also, no energy drinks or Starbucks are allowed in class.  Please keep all electronics at home; cell phones, iPads, etc. are not permitted in K-5th grade according to the school’s policy.
